Graphics and Visual Information Specialist

The City and County of Denver Auditor’s Office is seeking a Graphics and Visual Information Specialist. The Visual Specialist will work with various audit teams in the Agency.  Under the general direction of the Director of Communications, and working with the Reporting Specialists, Audit Directors and audit teams, the Graphics and Visual Information Specialist designs or creates graphics, presentations or reports to meet specific communication needs, such as info graphics, data visualizations, report design, social media and web visuals, presentations, handouts and fliers, publications, photo and report covers, brochures, newsletters, displays or other related visual materials.  Essential skills include adaptability, strong communication skills, friendly and professional collaboration, and quality work under deadlines.

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creates visual representations of information or data using appropriate computer applications. 
  • Supports designs and completion of reports in support of Reporting Specialists and audit staff.
  • Creates graphics and visualizations of information for use on social media and web. 
  • Collaborate and design presentation for internal use, Audit Committee and public vents using PowerPoint or other tools. 
  • Create one- or two-page fliers to share essential audit information with the public. 
  • Support updates and design of established publications, brochures, fliers, etc. 
  • Photography as needed and collaboration with audit staff on audit reports covers. 
  • Creates designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts.
  • Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and selects style and size of type.
  • Uses computer software to generate new images.
  • Draws, and prints charts, graphs, illustrations, and other artwork, using computer software.
  • Reviews final layouts and recommends improvements as needed.
  • Develops graphics and layouts for reports, presentations, publications, etc.   
  • Studies illustrations and photographs to plan presentation of materials, products, or services.
  • Prepares notes and instructions for workers who assemble and prepare final layouts for printing.
  • By position, provides support of web graphic design utilizing interactive presentation tools that supports end users.
  • By position, develops sign design and graphics in a 3-dimensional plane.
  • Other visual and design communications support as needed.

  • Education Requirement – Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement – Two (2) years of professional level experience performing communications, marketing, and/or public relations.
  • Education & Experience Equivalency – One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following preferred qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in graphic design, visual communication, data analysis, or developing visual materials.  Two years of experience in computer aided design and publication.
  • Degree in Visual Communications, Graphic Arts, Graphics Design, Multimedia Design or related. 
  • Proficiency with relevant applications in the Adobe suite, including illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Lightroom. 
  • Experience using data and large information sets to visually communicate with the public. 
  • Experience with adapting data from Excel and other data sources for charts, table, infographics or other key audit or prevailing wage purposes.

Staff Internal Auditor

The Audit Services Division of the Auditor’s Office is seeking highly motivated Staff Internal Auditors to perform financial and performance audit assignments. Staff Internal Auditors perform entry-level progressing to standard-level performance auditing work applying generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards in conducting financial, compliance, and performance audits and other studies of City departments and contract providers.  

  • Work independently as well as part of a team.  
  • Assist in designing approaches to address audit objectives, prepare and implement audit programs, and prepare report drafts.  
  • Provide input into audit planning and preparation through research of risks and prior audit information.  
  • Collect, evaluate and interpret audit evidence to reach conclusions.  
  • Identify and classify issues and perform follow-up procedures to document issues and disposition.  
  • Use strong communication skills to write and/or verbally communicate clear, concise audit findings, documentation of work performed to support conclusions, and clear concise concluding statements and/or recommendations.  
  • Participate in a variety of business process reviews and potentially assist with information technology audits or reviews.  
  • Adhere to and improve division standards and participate in division initiatives as well as provide value-added suggestions for achieving improvement.  
  • Utilize audit software and related tools effectively.  
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Additionally, candidates with any type of auditing experience, even if just in an internship or a part-time job, will be given greater consideration. Senior Internal Auditor

The City and County of Denver Auditor’s Office is seeking Senior Internal Auditors. Under the general direction of the assigned Audit Supervisor and Team Lead, the Senior Internal Auditor executes performance and/or financial audits and evaluations of local government functions and activities. The position may also occasionally conduct various non-audit services.

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting performance and/or financial audits or evaluations of City and County departments and programs that include, but are not limited to, effectiveness, efficiency, public policy assessment, governance, internal control and compliance objectives using Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) promulgated by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).
  • Assisting the Audit Supervisor and Team Lead and other team members with all aspects of audits and advisory services including project planning, fieldwork, report writing and presentation of results.
  • Identifying and utilizing optimal performance/financial audit and research methodologies in the execution of internal audits.
  • Ensuring that work activities fully comply with GAGAS and the Audit Service Division’s operating policy and procedures.
  • Producing high quality written products that synthesize and explain complex issues for a variety of audiences, staff, and citizens of Denver.
  • Performing audit-related internal and external presentations and briefings.
  • Performing audit follow-up work for assigned audits.
  • Conducting Division administrative tasks as required.

  • A degree in Public Policy or Public Administration, accounting, internal audit, or a related business field.
  • Relevant internal auditing work experience in a government environment.
  • Strong familiarity and experience with GAGAS.
  • Experience with data analytics
  • Experience with TeamMate.
