Denver has an independently‐elected Auditor to serve as a check and balance on Denver’s “strong mayor” form of government. Timothy M. O’Brien, CPA, is Denver’s 24th Auditor, elected in 2015 and running unopposed in 2019 for a four‐year term. The Auditor’s Office is responsible for internal audit services and prevailing wage enforcement. We are seeking a Business Manager. As an appointee member of the executive team of the Auditor’s Office, the Business Manager is a key role in the 3 divisions, 65‐person office, helping us achieve our mission and goals. Essential skills include strong communication, ethical and leadership skills, friendly and professional collaboration, good project management ability, attention to detail and quality.
Under the direction of the Deputy Auditor, and working with the Director of Contracts and Accountability, the Communications Director and other office leaders, the Business Manager’s primary responsibilities include:
Financial management and tracking other performance metrics
Coordinate completion of the annual budget
Coordinate external contract payments and renewals
Ensure all office policies for employee management, operations, and internal controls are adequately documented and easily accessible, aligned with office mission and goals, and updated in a timely manner
Work with the Human Resources Manager and office administrative staff to ensure procedures and resources are in place to support policies
Ensure compliance with city policies for IT hardware and software security, financial reporting and procurement
As needed, attend community events for equipment setup, community engagement efforts and presentation assistance when the Communications Director is unable to attend
Work with Communications Director to coordinate vendors and printing orders through purchase orders and project estimates
As needed, coordinate office projects such as facility improvements
Other projects and assignments as needed
Desired Skills and Experience:
Financial and operational management of an office within a large entity, government experience is a plus
Strong Excel skills, familiarity with Workday is a plus
Business degree. CPA a plus
